2006 Wings & Things Day

2006 Wings & Things Kids Day

Presented by

On September 16, 2006 the Rio Creek Aviation Foundation held the 2nd Annual Wings & Things Kid's Day.  The goal of this event is to get kids interested in aviation through fun and educational activities.

Wings & Things

This year, we split the kids into three groups so that they could do activities based on their age.  Activities included videos, coloring books, shaving model propellers and building rockets.

The kids got to make foam airplanes that had the colors of the Blue Angels.

After the airplanes were built, it was time to fly them.

The older kids got to use sandpaper and a rasp to make a model propeller from blanks.

The younger kids got coloring pages that also included names of airplane parts.

The rockets were easy to make and decorate.  They were a paper tube with a foam nose cone.

A 2-Liter bottle was connected to the end of a piece of conduit and the rocket was placed on the end.  A stomp on the bottle would launch the rocket high into the air.

The Rio Creek Aviation Foundation was formed in 2004 with the purpose of fostering a love of flying for young and old alike in Northeast Wisconsin. Based at the Rio Creek International Airport, the heart of aviation in Kewaunee County, the foundation promotes aviation through educational programs, fly-ins, Young Eagles days and other aviation-oriented activities.
