On Friday, May 18, 2004, Rio Creek Airport hosted students from Algoma Elementary School. Kids from Kindergarten- 3rd grade, along with teachers and chaperones, visited to learn more about airplanes.
Brian Dauck explains how to use aeronautical charts and how a pilot talks on the radio.
Everyone got to hear from pilots at four different stations:
1) Brian explained aeronautical charts & "pilot talk" on the radio.
2) Don and Steve showed an example of an "in progress" homebuilt airplane and an engine which was being overhauled.
3) Justin explained the difference between high-wings, low-wings, & biplanes, and tri-gear & taildraggers.
4) Don J showed the runway and how the numbers correspond to the magnetic direction it points.

Don Jahnke explains the reasons behind how the runways are numbered.
After everyone stopped at each station, they stood and watched as Frank Fameree, in the Cherokee, Don Jahnke, in the Pacer, and Brian Dauck, in the Ercoupe, took to the air and made a fly-by. As the final airplane flew over, Duane Fameree directed their attention overhead as Dale Jorgensen performed a mini airshow, doing some loops and spins. When everyone was back on the ground, all the pilots received a round of applause and all the kids were invited back for a Young Eagle ride in the future.
